This wonderful artist's home is in the East Bay, very close to Downtown Berkeley, uc Berkeley campus, Berkeley Repertory Theater, Freight and Salvage music, as well as many great restaurants, movie theaters, shopping, parks, etc. You’ll love it because of the unique decor, the natural surroundings, beautiful gardens and outdoor deck, peaceful neighborhood, comfortable bed, natural light and sunshine, excellent amenities, and great central Berkeley location. By car or bart train it is only 30 minutes to many prime tourist destinations in San Francisco, including the gay district in soma. The Castro gay district is an additional 10 minutes away by train or car. Steamworks gay sauna in Berkeley is only one mile away from the house. Oakland airport is 30 to 45 minutes away by car or train, and sfo - San Francisco airport is about an hour away by car or train. This rental is perfect for solo adventurers, couples, students and business travelers.

It can also be said that this is a very unique space for a rental, with an artistic ambiance inspired by ancient civilizations and indigenous cultures. When you enter here you will know right away that you've come someplace special, and you will feel the peaceful energy. The house is set back from the street and surrounded by a secluded garden alive with many flowering plants and fruit trees. An outdoor deck with benches, tables and chairs allows you to enjoy eating, reading or meditating in the open air and sunshine. Inside the temperature never gets too hot, thanks to the design of the house, but there is central heating for those colder days and nights. A very comfortable queen-size organic memory foam mattress bed with 100% cotton sheets sits atop an intricately carved Timorese bed frame in the bedroom. A custom-built Shoji screen door closet is where guest can hang their clothes and keep personal items in the dresser, as well as on bamboo benches. This guest bedroom also has a 40" flat screen hd television with cable, dvd and vcr. North and east facing windows look out onto garden vegetation. The indigenous art and artifacts that decorate the bedroom walls are all collected by the host from his travels throughout Australia and the islands of the South Pacific.

Guest also has access to other shared common spaces in the house. These include a beautiful bathroom with ancient Egyptian motifs, the African-themed living room, the dining area (which can double as a work area for your laptop or writing), and the kitchen, which guest can use except for cooking on the stove top or in the oven. However, the microwave can be used by guest, as well as coffee maker, tea pot, refrigerator, sink, blender, and designated cabinet space for storing food.

The host is very familiar with the entire Bay Area, and happy to assist guests in recommending sites to see, places to eat and shop, ways to get around, etc. The host is very respectful of privacy and the personal space of his guests, and looks forward to hosting people who will be equally respectful of him and his home. The host does his best to keep his home very clean and well organized. He asks that guests also do their best to clean up after themselves, whether in the kitchen, bathroom or elsewhere, and that they keep their personal items stored away in the areas provided for their exclusive use. Regarding breakfast, guests are provided with natural juice, fresh fruit, plus gluten and lactose free cereal, oatmeal, and milk alternatives. Coffee and a variety of teas are also provided to guests.

Please note the following House Rules: #1) Absolutely no smoking is allowed in the house, on the deck, or in the garden. Also, non-smoking guests are strongly preferred. #2) No recreational drugs in the house or on property. #3) No perfume, cologne, hairspray, or heavily scented body care products in the house. Host may ask guest to refrain from use of certain products if they are found to be problematic for his environmental sensitivities. #4) Shoes and footwear must be left by the front door #5) No candles, fires or open flames in the house or on property #6) Guests may not use stove or oven, but they can use other areas and appliances in kitchen to store, prepare and reheat food. #7) Guest must wash all dishes and kitchenware they use, and clean up after themselves in kitchen and bathroom. #8) Guests are asked to keep their personal items in the designated closet, drawer and cabinet spaces, and to keep their area in good order, especially when going out. #9) Guests may not bring other people into house or on property. Rental is exclusively for the registered guests. #10) Guests are asked to not be too noisy - please be aware of sound levels when speaking on the phone, listening to music or tv. #11) Guests are responsible to lock doors and windows whenever they go out. Gates must also be locked after coming in or going out.

Check in time for guests is between 3 pm and midnight. Check out is by noon. A $100 usd security deposit will be due along with the rental fee at the time of check in, and that security deposit will be returned in full at the time of check out so long as nothing in the house is missing or damaged.
